As an alternative use a grinder with a diamond tile cutter wheel to cut the tile.

You start by marking the cut and scoring the face of the tile on the line.
Additionally the edges are usually precisely cut at a square.
Score the profile with the saw then cut in from the edge of the tile to remove as much waste as possible.
Firmly press the edge of the glass cutter or carbide pencil along the line using a carpenter square as a guide.
